Gong Shuttle service to remain free

Gong Shuttle service to remain free

Commuters will continue to get a free ride on the Gong Shuttle service after a deal was struck between Transport for NSW, Wollongong City Council and the University of Wollongong.

The agreement won't see changes to the frequency or operating times for the Shuttle from Monday to Saturday, however there will be changes on Sundays and public holidays.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward says after a strong community campaign, it's a great outcome for locals.

"This is about ensuring that we work together, levels of government and the users that benefit, to make sure that this shuttle continued free," Mr Ward told i98.

"What we've been able to do as a State Government is fund 75% of the cost and the remaining 25% will be met by Wollongong City Council and the University of Wollongong."

The funding agreement ensures the service remains free for locals for the next three years.
