A man has been charged after a pedestrian was critically injured in a hit and run in Cringila on Saturday.
Just after 10pm, a 24-year-old man was walking west on Lake Avenue, near Bethlehem Street, when he was struck by a vehicle.
The driver allegedly failed to stop.
The man was treated at the scene by paramedics, before being airlifted to St George Hospital, where he underwent surgery for head and leg injuries.
Following inquiries, police arrested a 21-year-old man at a home on Cocherane Street in West Wollongong.
He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm (drive manner dangerous), fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm, and negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm).
He was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today.
