First Nations Film Festival – 50 Years of Deadly
Celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 at the inaugural First Nations Film Festival – 50 Years of Deadly, running from Wednesday 8 July to Sunday 12 July across Port Kembla and Warrawong.
Presented by the Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation, Gawura and Screen Illawarra, the festival marks the 50th anniversary of the national NAIDOC movement with a program of films, documentaries, industry workshops and Q&A sessions celebrating First Nations stories, culture and creativity.
Event Schedule
- Wednesday 8 July (6:00pm – 9:00pm) – First Nations Acting Masterclass with multi-award-winning casting director Anousha Zarkesh at the Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation, Port Kembla.
- Friday 10 July (6:00pm – 8:30pm) – Opening Night featuring Wolfram (2025 feature film), Nhandi (short film) and a live Q&A at Gala Cinema, Warrawong.
- Saturday 11 July (6:00pm – 8:30pm) – Screening of Yurlu | Country (2025 feature documentary), Ganibarra (short film) and a live Q&A at Gala Cinema, Warrawong.
- Sunday 12 July (5:00pm – 7:15pm) – Closing Night on Dharawal Country featuring Journey Home, David Gulpilil (2025 feature documentary), The Secret Waterhole (short film) and a live Q&A at Gala Cinema, Warrawong.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and celebrate the world's oldest continuing living cultures. Festival tickets are available online.
