Breakthrough in Fairy Meadow cold case

Breakthrough in Fairy Meadow cold case

After almost 50 years, detectives have finally arrested a man over the kidnapping and suspected murder of Cheryl Grimmer.

Three-year-old Cheryl was taken from the changerooms at Fairy Meadow Beach on January 12, 1970, with her mother and siblings just metres away.

Her body was never found.

But after two year cold case investigation, detectives from Strike Force Wessel have now arrested and charged a man with Cheryl's abduction and murder.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the man - now 63 years old -  has adult children, and has been living in a suburban area of Melbourne, just a few kilometres from one of Cheryl's brothers.

He's been extradited back to Wollongong, and will front Wollongong Local Court tomorrow.
