Helensburgh Community Centre to be demolished

Helensburgh Community Centre to be demolished

Wollongong Council is set to demolish the Helensburgh Community Centre amid concerns about ongoing moisture issues in the building.

Over the past decade, Council has undertaken a series of works to investigate and mitigate damp under the floor of the Community Hall.

However the recent heavy rainfall has exacerbated the issue and resulted in a significant mould problem.

Council has decided to demolish the building for the health and safety of locals who use the centre.

Wollongong Council General Manager Greg Doyle says Council is looking to build a combined replacement community centre and library.

It’s planned for construction in 2025-2027.
