Council exploring parking and congestion options for local beaches

Wollongong Council will begin looking at pop-up parking options for beaches at six Illawarra suburbs.

It's part of a plan to help alleviate pressure on the foreshore precinct in Summer, and has been given the tick of approval at last night’s Council meeting.

New temporary parking options will be investigated at Stanwell Park, Austinmer, Thirroul, Bulli, Wollongong and Port Kembla.

Warnings for visitors about overcrowding at local roads and beaches is also a step closer to reality.

Council will discuss the use of overhead electronic signage to highlight traffic congestion along Lawrence Hargrave Drive with Transport for New South Wales.

The signs would also let visitors know when local car parks are at capacity.
