The death of a 49 year old man at Shellharbour Hospital's Mental Health Unit is now at the centre of a major investigation.
Nikola Nastovski passed away unexpectedly, prompting an investigation by police.
The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health Network has confirmed two staff members have been stood down while a review is carried out.
It's expected to look at whether the appropriate observations and checks were undertaken.
"The Health District has extended it's sincere condolences to the family at this difficult time, and will continue to provide support and keep them updated," said Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD Chief Executive Margot Mains.
"As is standard practice for any unexpected death in a health service, the matter has been referred to the Coroner for investigation."
