M17 crash report released

Dutch investigators have released their final report into the MH17 disaster, confirming a Russian-made missile brought down the doomed flight over eastern

Ukraine.

All 298 people on board were killed - 38 Australians citizens and residents among them including Kanahooka couple Michael and Carol Clancy.

The Safety Board Chairman says Ukraine should have closed the airspace prior to the disaster.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop have welcomed the release of the report. The PM says his thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims.

Ms Bishop, who is in the U-S, has thanked the American Government for its support following the crash.

Russia has cast doubts over report but Shadow Foreign Minister Tanya Plibersek says suggestions the investigation was politically motivated are "nonsense".
