We're being encouraged to roll up our sleeves and donate blood as the Australian Red Cross blood service aims to recruit eight-thousand new blood donors every month.
It says the country could be missing out on vital donations because of misconceptions about the shelf life of donated blood.
The service's Jennifer Campbell Case says almost 90 percent of Australians don't know how long donated blood lasts for
“Blood donations don’t last forever, in fact the only last 42 days," said Ms Campbell Case
"We recently undertook some market research and discovered that more than one third of all Australians would give blood if they knew it had such a short shelf life.”
