Illawarra public schools push for a ‘fair go’

A campaign calling for a fair go for our local public schools will make it's way through the Illawarra today.

The Gonski Mobile Billboard will roll through Barrack Heights, Warrawong and Nowra, with Teachers Federation officials meeting with students, parents and families.

It follows revelations the Federal Government will cut $846 million from public schools in New South Wales.

Warrawong High School alone stands to lose $1.37 million in funding.

John Black from the NSW Teachers Federation says the cuts will have a devastating impact on local kids, and their numeracy and literacy skills.

"That's vital resources that those students in those communities really need to remove barriers, and allow them to reach their educational potential," he said.
