The North Queensland Cowboys have defeated the Brisbane Broncos to claim their maiden NRL premiership, in a match described by many as the greatest grand final ever.
The Cowboys scored after the siren to lock the scores at 16-all, Jonathan Thurston then stepped up for a field goal in the extra period to claim the club's first premiership 17-16.
Thurston says winning a first title for North Queensland is the greatest achievement in his decorated career. The four-time Dally M winner was named man of the match and also took out the Clive Churchill Medal.
The loss brings to an end a 16-year career of Brisbane captain Justin Hodges.
Broncos coach Wayne Bennett has renewed calls for golden point to be scrapped in future deciders, saying he'd much rather return for a re-match next week.
Meantime, police are pleased with the behaviour of the near 83,000-strong crowd which packed ANZ Stadium.
Eleven people were told to leave for intoxication and anti-social behaviour.
Another three people were arrested for offensive language and entering the field.
