Are you ready for an activated charcoal latte?

Have you seen or heard about activated charcoal lattes? They’re all the rage in trendy cafes and are subsequently popping up on Instagram feeds as a result.

What is a charcoal latte exactly?

A mixture of hot milk, activated charcoal and sweeteners topped with obligatory latte art to enhance its aesthetic qualities.

Activated charcoal has been used for 10,000 years in both Eastern and Western medicine to help detoxify and support intestinal health.

However, It’s unknown if these ancient cultures bothered to scribble cuddly panda bears and love hearts in their charcoal beverages.

The hipsters say that these funky concoctions are super healthy, helping lower cholesterol and alleviate hangovers.

Scientists and nutritionists don’t seem to be convinced about these supposed health benefits yet.

At the end of the day, it’s not too important whether or not these groovy new drinks are healthy or not – they look cool.

Does your local hipster barista serve these up yet? And are you game to try one?
